Pierre-Yves et al. have shown that patients with stable coronary artery disease exhibit much higher exercise releases of atrial and ventricular natriuretic peptides (ANP and BNP) when they are treated with beta-blockers these authors postulated that increased secretion of potent vasodilating and natriuretic agents constituted a mecha¬nism for protecting diseased hearts against stress.
