2. Ultrasonography
Compression ultrasonography carried out by experienced technicians is accurate in detecting above-the-knee throm¬bosis in patients who are symptomatic. An incomplete obstruction or small clots may not be detected. The test is sensitive and fairly specific in symptomatic patients, but in asymptomatic patients the sensitivity is only 59%. In addition, this highly touted test does not adequately visualize the deep veins of the calf or pelvis.
