VI. MANAGEMENT OF HYPERHOMOCYSTINEMIA

About the Auther > Homocysteine and Cardiovascular Disease

A. Folic Acid Intake
A diet rich in folic acid and vitamins B12 and B6 may reduce levels by approximately 10%. Folic acid tablets,
0.5–5 mg taken daily, reduce homocysteine levels 25–30%. Multivitamins containing 400 mg of folic acid can cause a similar reduction. The addition of vitamin B12 to folic acid supplementation may reduce levels a further 7%. Also vitamin B6 intake can cause some reduction in homocysteine levels.
